Everyone at SCIL was saddened to hear that Nick Danagher had passed away. As one of the founders of a neighbouring Disabled People's organisation, we worked closely with Nick at both a regional and national level to campaign on Independent Living issues. Nick's commitment to promoting Direct Payments was tireless and won him many supporters both within Independent Living Movement as well as within local and central government. His engaging personality allowed him to forcefully put his point across without antagonising or intimidating his listeners. As an ILF trustee, Nick also showed great diplomacy and political awareness in trying to ensure existing ILF users were protected during the recent upheavals at the organisation. In recent months, Nick had played a key role in developing SENDPO (South East Network of Disabled People's Organisations) and it is incumbent on us all to ensure we carry on his work into the future.
