Getting Involved

I believe that UKDPC as an organisation is essential to ensure the voice of DPOs, and their members, is heard at government level. I have worked on raising awareness about hate crimes against disabled people for nearly two decades and you can find out a lot about this issue on the UKDPC website, in the Disability Hate Crime section.

I strongly recommend that as many people as possible read our 'Getting Away With Murder Hate Crime Report', in full or Easy Read format here:

Below is also a bit more information about how you can get more involved in the issues we feel passionately about and fight hard to promote.

Facebook Disability Hate Crime Group.

There is now a Facebook page for disability hate crime. This will be an important place for dialogue and for people to share their experiences of hate crime. If you would like to join in or visit the group, then please click on Facebook Disability Hate Crime Group.

The Disability Advisory Group on Emergency Planning

This group, which includes representatives from several national disability organisations has helped impact assess most emergency plans in 2009. The group has also advised about communication with disabled people during the recent Swine Flu pandemic.

More representation on the group is required from DPOs. If you are interested in getting involved then please get in touch.

The Disability Hate Crime Blog and Network

There is a blog that stimulates debate and hopefully encourages other disabled people to get involved individually or via DPOs. Please click on Hate Crime Blog or cut and paste the following address if you would like to debate with me and others on disability hate crime issues.

The Disability Hate Crime Network is also great in allowing us to share distribute information about hate crime to many organisations and individuals throughout the UK. If you are interested in joining then please contact Stephen Brookes by email: stbmbe1@btinternet.com
